I am Lê Ni La and I am from Vietnam.
I am a Ph.D. student in linguistics with an additional specialization in Cognitive Science at Michigan State University. I am dissertating and aim to defense my dissertation in Spring 2019. Cristina Schmitt is my advisor, and I have been doing research on Vietnamese noun phrases from both theoretical and acquisition perspectives. My recent work is on the syntax, interpretation, and the acquisition of classifiers and pluralizers in Vietnamese.
I am affiliated with the MSU Language Acquisition Lab, where I was a graduate research assistant for 4 semesters, and the Timing, Attention, and Perception (TAP) Lab, where I am involved in projects on the role of rhythm in language processing. I have also been working with students of the Residential College of Arts and Humanities on their projects as part of their Integrated Language Options since Fall 2015. I was a graduate teaching assistant for LIN 401 (Introduction to Linguistics) for 6 semesters, two of which were supervised by Karthik Durvasula.
I was born and grew up in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (aka Saigon). Before coming to Michigan for graduate school, I was a lecturer of linguistics at the Department of Linguistics and Literature, HCMC University of Education (Vietnam). I earned both a B.A. in Linguistics and Literature and an M.A. in Linguistics while there. It was in 2008 (when I started my master's program in English at the University of Arkansas) that I touched snow for the first time in my life. After 5 years living in Michigan, I don't think I can ever be that excited seeing snow again.
